TRUMPETS PLAYSHOP
Children’s Theatre (4 – 6 years old)
Preschoolers are constantly moving. What better way than to channel their energies through music and movement. Music and movement gives preschoolers the opportunity to use their bodies to wiggle and dance. It also includes singing songs as they make transitions from one activity to another. Activities such as storytelling, games, art and instrument playing. Three times a week @ 1 ½ hours per session. Interactive Showcase at the end of the workshop
Children’s Musical Theatre for Children, Teens and Adults (7 years and above)
These classes will introduce the basics of musical theatre through theatre exercises, theatre games and creative dramatics. Musical theatre cultivates positive attitudes towards art and the discipline, or are, and about themselves in relation to art. Furthermore, it derives pleasure from a combination of senses, emotions, intellect, philosophy, imagination and spirit. Showcase at the end of the workshop. Three times a week @ 2 hours per session
Voice (6 years and above)
Learning how to sing involves the shaping of the inside of the mouth and how it affects the resultant sound of the singing voice. Thus, the class’ series of systematic exercises is provided to take each singer from the first steps of total body relaxation, to proper breathing, to creation of your first vocal sounds, and finally the performance and the maintenance of the voice over the long run. (one-on-one/ 8 sessions/ 1 hour per session) Recital is upon the recommendation of the teacher
Streetdance for Kids, Teens and Adults (7 years and above)
Streetdancing is a dance style that evolved outside the ‘dance studios’ in everyday spaces such as streets and school yards. The class will enjoy learning to move to different styles namely breaking (commonly referred to as breakdancing), popping (based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer’s body) and locking (relies on fast and distinct arm and head movements combined with more relaxed hips and legs). Streetdance will be taught by a well known dance group---The Manoeuvers. Twice a week @ 2 hours per session. Showcase at the end of the workshop
Modeling (4 – 25 years old)
Modeling will allow you to discover how to look the best you can and develop your fashion sense. The class will also help you discover personality traits you can develop that give an advantage over other models. Furthermore, the class will give you information about the different categories of modeling so you can decide which type of modeling is right for you and ways on how to make a portfolio and how to get discovered. The class will be taught by a famous fashion model, Ms. Patty Betita. Once a week @ 2 hours per session (6 sessions). Showcase at the end of the workshop: Fashion Show
Public Speaking/Hosting (13 years and above)
How do you speak naturally while all those people are watching you? Well, Public Speaking/Hosting is the class for you! This class will give you hints and tips on public speaking and presentation skills. It will also help you in dealing with public speaking nerves and anxiety. In addition, you will learn the different public speaking/hosting skills and public speaking/hosting techniques.
Starpower (13 years and above)
Starpower is an intensive training course for vocal performers. It aims to provide the workshop students with suggested tools and skills to present an efficient and effective vocal performance in the varied styles of contemporary music. The class also aims to discover and experience one’s musical possibilities and one’s musical realities---i.e. What’s available, What’s conceivable and What’s possible. The class will be taught by a well renowned singing group. The Company. Showcase at the end of the workshop

This class will help you get started in photography. You will discover tips about good composition, learn the basics of light and pick up several techniques to improve your photography. You will also learn the basics of digital photography and tips on just about everything you might wish to photograph.
DANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE (13 years and above)
Dance has played a central role in the history of theatre. This dance course will expose students to some of Broadway’s greatest musical theatre repertoire. Students will learn original choreography from a range of eras and styles. These will include, but not be limited to, pieces from Jerome Robbins’ “Westside Story”, Bob Fosse’s “Chicago”, and Michael Bennett’s “A Chorus Line”. In addition, foundational dance technique and placement will be emphasized with a rigorous center floor jazz/ballet warm up as well as conditioning and stretching exercises. Adagio work for strength and control will be integral as well as across the floor for turns, battements, leaps and stylized movement. A dance background is very helpful but not required.
ACTING FOR SONG
A performance skills course for Musical Theatre. The course include voice/song analysis and interpretation and improvisation. This is open to students with advanced skills in singing and acting.

“Ani ng Sining,” the Philippine International Arts Festival (PIAF) on February 2010
The artsphere is gearing up for yet another festive and fruitful month as the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) launches “Ani ng Sining,” the Philippine International Arts Festival (PIAF) in celebration of National Arts Month per Presidential Proclamation No. 683 in 1991.
Now on its 19th year, PIAF will bring together thousands of artists from all over the country to cultivate love for the arts and preserve culture. It promises to be grand on visuals and enriching in the mind as well. As arts goes to key cities nationwide, the festival aims to instill the richness of Philippine tradition among all Filipinos. In touring the seven different art forms, it not only raises awareness but also discovers artists whose talents are left untapped due to lack of venues.
The preparations for this month-long activity, which happens in February 2010, are already underway with the various committee heads lining up seminars, workshops, exhibits, and performances.
Aptly themed “Ani ng Sining,” PIAF will assemble the best of the best as well as the raw talents with the hope of nurturing arts and culture for future generations. The seasoned artists may learn new ideas from the kids of the digital age and may see arts in a different perspective. The youth, in turn, learn from the experiences of their esteemed counterparts.
“Aquatecture” of the Committee on Architecture and Allied Arts is set to hold a multimedia and installation exhibition exploring the many uses and images of water in relation to architecture. Renowned architect Henry Yap leads the committee. Major exhibitions and seminars will tour Manila and the Visayas.
Shirley Halili-Cruz, chair of the Committee on Dance, pursues yet another program to bring dance in all its diversity to grassroots. “Sayaw Pinoy 2010: Creating Venues of Creative Interaction through Dance” links mainstream and traditional dances and provides opportunity for the dance artists to exchange ideas and expertise.
Film enthusiasts will have to block of the dates for Cinema Rehiyon by the Committee on Cinema led by Dr. Miguel Rapatan, together with Vice-Head, Teddy Co. For this PIAF, Cinema Rehiyon goes yearlong to reach out to more regions in the country. These efforts may help revitalize the film industry. Recent awards from international film festivals are proof that Philippine cinema is alive and kicking. The committee will also hold dialogues and workshops with the aim of deepening the understanding and treatment of cinema.
Taboan 2010: 2nd Philippine Writers Festival of the Committee on Literary Arts headed by Commissioner Ricardo de Ungria, PIAF Festival Director who is also the head of the Subcommission on the Arts, is probably the busiest with a long lineup of talks and fora by renowned writers. Topics range from writing critical reviews to eco literature to historical writing. The committee decides to recognize prolific writers from the Visayas region. This year, there will also be interaction with other writers from different parts of the world.
The Committee on Visual Arts led by Egai Fernandez goes to Boracay for the Philippine Visual Arts Festival (PIVAF). Sand sculpture is just one of the highlights of the festival, which also include printmaking, photography, and body painting competition. The festival looks at opening more doors to new talents and exhibiting the works of seasoned and award-winning Filipino visual artists.
Musician Joey Ayala leads the Committee on Music in staging Organik Muzik 2: Palay Bigas Kanin. Ayala and company are set to bring together traditional and contemporary music with young artists like Radioactive Sago Project and the likes of Cynthia Alexander. The committee hopes to invite 300 artists for performances and to participate in fora and talks.
Tanghal: 4th National University and College Theater by the Committee on Dramatic Arts headed by Dr. Glecy Cruz Atienza will recognize the efforts of school theater groups in nurturing theater arts among the youth. There will be theater performances, conferences, and interactions with invited international artists.
With the prospect of a surpassing the success of previous years arts festival, PIAF 2010 is set to capture one’s imagination and bring the arts to the consciousness of all Filipinos.

Unmasking: Photography Workshop on Portraitand Identity by Marc Lathuillière
Marc Lathuillière, the French lensman behind "France Face Lost," will hold a free workshop from 10am to 3pm at Silverlens Gallery on January 30 and February 6 sponsored by Alliance Française, followed by an artist’s talk at Silverlens on February 6 at 6pm to introduce his work and artistic approach.
Dealing with French identity and observing France after an extended stay in Asia, Lathuillière questions the stereotypes on which we build our identities with his use of masks. From Provence to Normandy, and from Bordeaux to Metz, more than four hundred people have already let him take their "de-faced" portraits.
THE WORKSHOP
Day 1, 10am-3pm (5 hrs): From Psychological to Masked Portrait
Participants are invited to bring national costumes (Maria Clara, terno, barong, malong, etc.) and examples of their photographic works, either printed or on a USB flash drive. This session will be spent mostly in the studio.
Day 2, 10am-3pm (5 hrs): From Masked to Contextual Portrait
This second session will be spent mostly outdoors. Participants are invited to bring their own mask. It would be helpful if those who have their own laptops could bring them to the session.
Feb 06, Saturday, 6pm: Artist Talk
“How is it possible to take pictures of the other, whether as a local or a foreigner? What can photography tell us about identity construction? Here are the questions I intend to raise with this Unmasking.”

JAKE VERZOSA: Filipino Photographer
Jake Verzosa is a Filipino photographer whose works has been featured in the recent Photoquai 2009 in Paris, France.
Jake Verzosa was among 50 photographers who shared with the world some of their best works. His pieces included photographs taken from his various travels in the Southeast Asia region.
His stay in France opened up a lot of doors for him to meet with his peers (photographer) and curatoes. Interestingly, his invite to take part in Photoaqui 2009 came about through an email invite sent by Tadashi Ono, a curator from the Photoaqui Asia Pacific region. Tadashi Ono has seen Jake Verzosa's work on the Southeast Asian Ethnic Minority Groups at the Silver Gallery.
Right now, Jake Verzosa is busy preparing to open a photography gallery space, among his other work obligations.

PROJECT TROPICAL STORM
At the eve of September 23, 2009, the deadliest storm to ever hit Metro Manila in history was forming to the northwest of Palau. With a deceptively slow start, Typhoon Ondoy began to intensify and by September 26 2009, a state of calamity was announced throughout Luzon with Typhoon Ondoy bringing more than a month’s worth of rainfall in just a few days. With hours of continuously heavy rain, Metro Manila experienced flooding in some rural areas that reached a record of 20 feet high.
News of tragedy and tales of heroism have flooded online networking websites such as Facebook, and bloggers have been documenting the stories seen from their own perspective with an overwhelming outpour of support being mobilized via the Internet. As the Philippines attempt to survive this national ordeal, the Cinemanila International Film Festival is organizing a Sine Barangay outdoor screening in tribute to the flood victims. From video footages to eyewitness accounts, a Moving Images Compilation will be produced. With the definition of a Moving Image as video art, interactive media, video and computer animations and new media art, prominent local filmmakers will create a Visual Compilation of Moving Images gathered from different sources of any video footage, slide shows and interviews as experienced by different walks of people that faced a common, uniting crisis. To be shown in the Sine Barangay Caravan, Project Tropical Storm will give a firsthand look at the Filipino people as they face head-on the adversity brought on by Tropical Storm Ondoy.
PROJECT TROPICAL STORM : Mga Imahe sa Loob ng Bagyong Ondoy
Neck-deep in the flood crisis brought on by Tropical Storm Ondoy, the Filipino nation is still reeling from the blows dealt by the deadly storm. Every Filipino has experienced Tropical Storm Ondoy in one way or another and the Cinemanila International Film Festival wants to know what you’ve gone through!
• Submit any video footage captured by your phone or collection of photos as Storm Ondoy rages through the country and the large-scale destruction it left on its wake.
• And with everyone contributing and joining relief efforts, you can submit your images and stories of heroism and volunteerism that you and your friends are still continually carrying out.
• With the Filipinos’ penchant to find the lighter side of things while going through a crisis, be sure to submit any Ondoy video or photo that manages to make you smile as we live through these times of national adversity.

News of tragedy and tales of heroism have flooded online networking websites such as Facebook, and bloggers have been documenting the stories seen from their own perspective with an overwhelming outpour of support being mobilized via the Internet. As the Philippines attempt to survive this national ordeal, the Cinemanila International Film Festival is organizing a Sine Barangay outdoor screening in tribute to the flood victims. From video footages to eyewitness accounts, a Moving Images Compilation will be produced. With the definition of a Moving Image as video art, interactive media, video and computer animations and new media art, prominent local filmmakers will create a Visual Compilation of Moving Images gathered from different sources of any video footage, slide shows and interviews as experienced by different walks of people that faced a common, uniting crisis. To be shown in the Sine Barangay Caravan, Project Tropical Storm will give a firsthand look at the Filipino people as they face head-on the adversity brought on by Tropical Storm Ondoy.

Neck-deep in the flood crisis brought on by Tropical Storm Ondoy, the Filipino nation is still reeling from the blows dealt by the deadly storm. Every Filipino has experienced Tropical Storm Ondoy in one way or another and the Cinemanila International Film Festival wants to know what you’ve gone through!
• Submit any video footage captured by your phone or collection of photos as Storm Ondoy rages through the country and the large-scale destruction it left on its wake.
• And with everyone contributing and joining relief efforts, you can submit your images and stories of heroism and volunteerism that you and your friends are still continually carrying out.
• With the Filipinos’ penchant to find the lighter side of things while going through a crisis, be sure to submit any Ondoy video or photo that manages to make you smile as we live through these times of national adversity.
