The election is the singular most powerful event that can change the course of our history. This is why the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) believes that the youth voters should be educated. They comprise the influential 5M votes which could actually swing the election results.
In October of 2009, PETA premiered a stage play, entitled Si Juan Tamad, Ang Diablo at Ang Limang Milyong Boto, a vaudeville-style musical which earned rave reviews from theater critics as well as other voters ed groups who said that the play is educational but highly entertaining as well.
With the support from FREEDOM TO CREATE-Singapore who funded a video production of the play, PETA will be spreading its wings to reach out to their Visayas and Mindanao viewers will not only remain as an elusive dream.
April 19, 2010, RMC Media Center- PETA had its launch of Vincent de Jesus' Si Juan Tamad, Ang Diablo at Ang Limang Milyong Boto DVD, in cooperation with Maskara Youth Theatre Guild of Rizal Memorial Colleges. Participating Organizations and Schools are: Rizal Memorial Colleges, Brokenshire College, Davao Doctors College, STEP-FA scholars, AYOS Na, Youth for Environment and Peace, Kaliwat Theater Collective and the San Antonio Disaster Management Group.
During the event, DVD kits of the said musical were distributed with a Discussion Guide so that Teachers and Youth Leaders can use it in classrooms and in their respective organizations. The objective of this video is to educate the young viewers on: The Importance of this Election; Criteria in Choosing a Candidate; Qualifications of a good leader; How to vote; How to safeguard our votes and ensure good governance.
Vincent de Jesus' Si Juan Tamad Ang Diyablo at ang Limang Milyong Boto is an entertaining, non partisan theatrical fare which focuses on the story of Juan Tamad and his journey that allowed him the Philippine election process as both a dirty and corrupt exercise and a chance to be able to instigate change through ones effort to be involved in the process.
For teachers and youth leaders: For details on how you can get a FREE copy of this video and the teacher’s kit, please send your email to erollelinusmiranda@yahoo.com.ph. (linusmiranda_maskara)

RP hosts the 4th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts
The Philippines has been declared by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as its Culture Capital for 2010 to 2011. As the region’s culture capital, the Philippines is tasked to host the 4th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts (AMCA) and the 6th Senior Officials Meeting for Culture and Arts (SOMCA) in Clark, Pampanga in March 2010. In February, as a prelude, an Asean puppetry festival and conference is scheduled for the last week of the month a part of the International Festival of Arts.
Along with the said meetings, the Philippines will also host the 4th ASEAN Festival of Arts (AFA). With the theme “The Best of the ASEAN: From Ancestral Roots to New Artistic Routes of Expression Mobilizing Cultural Diversity for the UN-MDGs,” the festival will highlight the creativity and foster the exchange of ideas among the best artists from ASEAN countries. Each ASEAN member will showcase one of their country’s finest works in their chosen field of art (theater, music, literature, film, or dance).
As one of its contribution to the festival, the Philippines will be restaging “Baler sa Puso Ko,” an original zarzuela, with libretto by Dr. Isagani Cruz and music by Lutgardo Labad, that reflects the wealth of heritage, and the 400-year history of the town of Baler.
Performances for the AFA will be held at the Centennial Amphitheater of the Nayong Pilipino sa Clark Expo (NCPE). Meanwhile, film showings, workshops, poetry readings, and book launchings will take place at NCPE’s dormitory, arcadia, and library.
The Interagency Committee is jointly led by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alberto Romulo, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) headed by Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Vilma Labrador, with the support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The aforementioned events serve as a continuing effort in promoting common identity and diversity, enhancing cultural heritage and tourism, and strengthening ties among members of the ASEAN. The successful projection of the ASEAN in the global culturescape through the Philippine Collective showcases the Philippines' rich tradition and talents.
With the Philippine International Arts Festival 2010 Ani ng Sining celebration this coming February as a prelude, NCCA Executive Director and Philippine ITI President Cecile Guidote Alvarez, along with CDC Chairman Benny Ricaforte, aims to “project the Philippines as the Cultural Gateway to the Southeast Asian region.”

Dance Xchange: The 2nd International Dance Workshop and Festival with the theme “Cultural Connectivity through Dance” on April 14–20 in Roxas City
The National Committee on Dance of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts has been spearheading the celebration of the International Dance Day with the holding of the Annual National Dance Congress and Festival to materialize Pres. Proclamation No. 154, declaring the last week of April as “National Dance Week”. With the great success of the 2008 National Dance Congress and International Dance Day, the National Committee on Dance under the leadership of Shirley Halili-Cruz endeavored into organizing the Dance Xchange: The Philippine International Dance Workshop and Festival.
Following the successful 1st International Dance Workshop and Festival in 2009, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) – National Committee on Dance is once again organizing the Dance Xchange: The 2nd International Dance Workshop and Festival with the theme “Cultural Connectivity through Dance” on April 14 – 20 in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines.
The Dance Xchange aims to:
1) strengthen international dance network,
2) showcase the unique dances of each country to facilitate cultural understanding,
3) provide venue for interaction and facilitate learning among dancers, directors, dance teachers, choreographers,
4) encourage the creation of new works, and
5) provide a platform for local and foreign choreographers and dancers to stage their new works. Dance Xchange will showcase the unique dances of each country as tool for cultural understanding.
The theme of Dance Xchange: The 2nd International Dance Workshop and Festival supports the International Dance Day message delivered by Julio Bocca:
Dance is discipline, work, teaching, communication. With it we save on words that perhaps others would not understand and, instead, we establish a universal language familiar to everyone. It gives us pleasure, it makes us free and it comforts us from the impossibility we humans have to fly like birds, bringing us closer to heaven, to the sacred, to the infinite.
It is a sublime art, different each time, so much like making love that at the end of each performance it leaves our heart beating very hard and looking forward to the next time.
Indeed, the Dance Xchange is a fitting event to realize the inspiring message of Julio Bocca and the aspiration of all dance artists – that of giving deeper value and high esteem for the art of Dance.
SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES
April 14 - arrival of foreign dance troupe
- performance in Manila/ Tour in Manila
April 15 - opening of Dance Xchange in Roxas City, Capiz
April 15-18 forum and workshops
- performances in Roxas City and in the near by municipalities
closing of dance xchange
April 19 - performances in Boracay, Antique and Iloilo
April 20 - return to Manila
April 21 - fly out of Manila (foreign delegates)

It is a sublime art, different each time, so much like making love that at the end of each performance it leaves our heart beating very hard and looking forward to the next time.
Indeed, the Dance Xchange is a fitting event to realize the inspiring message of Julio Bocca and the aspiration of all dance artists – that of giving deeper value and high esteem for the art of Dance.

FILharmoniKA is the most in-demand orchestra in the country today. Under the leadership of music director Gerard Salonga, the group was formed in 2005 as the in-house recording ensemble of Carmel House Studios, a music and audio post-production facility in Manila. Composed of the country’s finest musicians, what was then known as the Global Studio Orchestra can be heard on film scores and albums, namely the animated feature Tugger starring Jim Belushi, the Filipino thriller Ang Pamana, and the albums of Regine Velasquez, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Mon David, and most notably Lea Salonga’s most recent studio album Inspired, which went platinum last year. They can also be heard on the station IDs of The Filipino Channel and QTV, as well as major television commercials. The orchestra also performs on the scores of several animated television series such as Jippy, Journey with Terry, and the Singapore-animated series Shelldon.
In 2006 the orchestra began a series of studio recordings entitled Musika Natin, which is dedicated to celebrating the genius of great Filipino composers, distributed by Sony-BMG Music. These are Lahing Kaymanggi, which features the symphonic works of Maestro Lucio San Pedro, and Ugnayan, featuring the jazz mastery of Maestro Angel Matias Peña. The third album in the series is entitled Heritage, which features the symphonic works of Col. Antonino Buenaventura. One of the more popular releases is Kumpas, an album of great Filipino rock songs performed by the orchestra, joined by several of the songs’ original artists such as Sampaguita, Wally Gonzales, Jett Pangan, and Noel Cabangon. The orchestra was also featured on a landmark recording entitled Eastern Skies, collaborating with jazz musicians Johnny Alegre and Affinity, released by Candid Records.
In 2008, a new direction was taken, as well as a new name, FILharmoniKA.
In the live performance scene, FILharmoniKA has collaborated with the country’s brightest, and its varied repertoire is a testament to its versatility. Since its inception, audiences have heard the orchestra perform in such concerts as Martin Nievera’s 25th anniversary concert at the Araneta Coliseum entitles XXV, the Philippine International Jazz Festival in Makati, and the much-anticipated collaboration of Barbie Almalbis and Kitchie Nadal at the Araneta Coliseum. FILharmoniKA shared the stage with Tony Award-winner Lea Salonga for her 30th anniversary concert at the PICC entitled My Life…On Stage, and with Ogie Alcasid in September at the Araneta Coliseum for his 20th anniversary concert 20/20. The orchestra also received tremendous critical acclaim for their performances in Stages Productions’ run of West Side Story at the Meralco Theatre, Cinderella at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and Atlantis Productions’ Hairspray. Last February 2009 at the Araneta Coliseum, FILharmoniKA performed with Peter Cetera, and the Grammy-winning musician referred to the orchestra as the finest he has performed with on tour. The orchestra received even more critical praise in its performance of Stephen Sondheim’s challenging score in Repertory Philippines’ run of Sweeney Todd at OnStage Greenbelt, and most recently accompanied Lea Salonga in her highly successful Your Songs concerts at the PICC in Manila, as well as in Cebu and Bacolod.
Since the name change, FILharmoniKA can also be heard on Gerard Salonga’s original score to Ayala Museum’s exhibit Gold Of Ancestors, as well as on the debut album of 2007 WCOPA winner Reymond Sajor, and The CompanY’s most recent Viva Records release Group Hug. The orchestra can also be heard on the theme songs of the ABS-CBN television series Tanging Yaman and Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo, and performed the theme song of Star Cinema’s And I Love You So.
As a testament to the orchestra’s versatility, FILharmoniKA is also gaining recognition as a formidable classical ensemble, participating in the 2008 and 2009 seasons of FILFEST. This past season FILharmoniKA gave memorable performances or Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, Leonard Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On The Town, Igor Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks Concerto for Chamber Orchestra and Norman Dello Joio’s Concertato for Clarinet and Orchestra with clarinetist Marian Liebowitz. The orchestra has also accompanied some of the country’s leading classical artists such as pianist Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz, and violinists Justin Texon, Regina Buenaventura, and Coke Bolipata.
This year FILharmoniKA embarks on its own symphonic season at the PhilAm Life Theatre in Manila. Among the top rate artists collaborating with the orchestra this season are one of the world's greatest cellists Richard Bamping on April 17th for Dvorak’s Cello Concerto, and internationally renowned pianist Cecile Licad on July 2nd and 3rd for Gershwin’s Piano Concerto. Filipino music lovers can expect much from this highly talented and dedicated group whose goal is to bring the best of music making to audiences at home and the world over, as well as introduce new audiences to the magic of orchestral music.

KALAHI Cultural Caregiving: Creativity Summit reaches out to the marginalized
Aimed at addressing the eight UN Millennium Development Goals (UN MDGs), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) led by Chairman Vilma Labrador, Executive Director Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, and Deputy Executive Director Malou Jacob in cooperation with the International Theater Institute (ITI) is set to open the Creativity Summit on Kalahi Cultural Caregiving and a Short + Sweet Festival on March 9-15.
It is a prelude to the AMCA-SOMCA AFA forging the example of forming culture with social content for presentation in the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting as the Philippines is honored as the 1st ASEAN Culture Capital 2010-2011 in conjunction with its role as host of the AFA.
Featuring harvests from Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao in dance, music, drama and film, the creativity summit will bring together the marginalized sector of the society—the physically challenged, the frail and the elderly, the street children, prisoners, abused women, refugees of armed conflict and victims of climate change disasters among others, with special highlights on their creations in the Short + Sweet Festival.
Performing at the creativity summit are Marilac Hills Center for Abused Women, Tahanang Walang Hagdan, the Elsie Gaches, and the Ortho-Pedagogical Institute for Dance. For Music, Angklung Ensemble of Golden Acres, Nayon ng Kabataan (street children), Ambassadors of Light (Blind Chorale Group with the Earthsavers Dream Ensemble) and the String of Sampaguita from the National Bilibid Prisons will delight the audience with a musical ensemble.
The Government Internship Program, consist of unemployed youth who are under the care of the Manila City Hall Youth Development Program will perform “Sa Dalampasigan,” a 10-minute play about mature people who have lost hope and reason to continue living.
A visual arts exhibition will also feature works of the sick such as the Brave Kids (cancer victims) and the Tagaytay Drug Rehab Center.
Two short films will be presented by Pili at Pino, a visual arts and film enthusiast group of marginalized youth from Manila, In line with this, there will also be an Animation workshop to be conducted through Tuldok with the pilot testing results demonstrated and discussed.
An exciting aspect of the Summit is the Music Fusion, synergizing native instruments with indigenous and traditional voices and other creative sound makers with movement, dances, and songs—mixing and matching, melding and interweaving the produce of each regional representation into one total theater performance. Project director is Dr. Mars Cavestany with Gardy Labad as Music Director and Wally Tuyan, and Gigi David as choreographers. Stage management is composed of Gigi Perate and Ronnie Martinez.
Conducted nationwide, the Kalahi Cultural Caregiving Program is in line with poverty alleviation program of President Gloria-Macapagal-Arroyo aimed at achieving the eight UN MDG. This program utilizes the Earthsavers Dreams Methodology which involves human resource development, eco-social rehabilitation, and values education through the arts and media and sports and sciences. Its holistic approach underscores the therapeutic and participatory values derived from meaningful and relevant arts training that culminates in a showcase of talents in the field of visual arts, music, dance, theater arts, creative crafts, media and animation and broadcast modules.
The Short + Sweet Festival, on the other hand, will feature performances also from Luzon, theVisayas and Mindanao. From Luzon, there will be performances from the Tagbanuas and Palaweños and from the BALER Arts Academy with the Gawad Kalinga Tatalon Performing Arts. The Lihok Visayan Contingent as well as Tagum group, Tampaken Lum-Alay Cultural Dance Ensemble and the Bukidnon State University will be joining Luzon Short and Sweet Harvest.

AUDITIONS FOR LITTLE WOMEN
Auditions for Repertory Philippines’ production “LITTLE WOMEN” will be held at the Rep office, C2-A, Building C, 2316, Karrivin Plaza, Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati City.
The production is in search of actors for the following roles:
Meg: female; soprano/belt; 18-to late 20’s
Beautiful. The oldest of the March sisters - she is sweet tempered and motherly, and has a penchant for pretty things. She likes to sew, and does her best at running a household, though at times she has trouble. She battles with being poor because she wants so much to have nice things, but adores her family and later her husband.
Jo: female; high belt; 18-to late 20’s
The main heroine of the book, Jo is the second oldest sister and a tomboy. She adores writing of any kind, and plans as a girl to make her fortune with her pen. She is very passionate about writing. She is quick-tempered, but tries hard to be good and pleasing to her parents. She takes Laurie under her wing and helps to raise him into the man he becomes. She is often self-sacrificing, and has a strong maternal connection over her sister Beth who she adores. She is exceptionally dependable, and when their father is away, she acts as the man of the house.
Beth: female; soprano/belt; 16- late 20’s
The quiet sweet-tempered angel of the family, Beth does everything she can to make the house a happy place. She is shy, and adores playing the piano and singing. She loves cats and dolls, and takes care of both with a fervor.
Amy: female; soprano/belt; 16 - late 20’s
The youngest of the March sisters, Amy is at first selfish and spoiled. Destined to be the sister who becomes a Lady, Amy concentrates on making herself better than their poverty-stricken life. She is an artist who loves to portray beauty in all things. As time goes on, she tempers her nature and becomes a mature loving woman, who puts away her greed for money, and acts more out of her heart.
Mrs. March (Marmee): female; alto; 40’s
The mother of the four March sisters, Marmee is the guide of the family. She appears to have infinite wisdom and patience, and an exceptionally charitable nature. She wants nothing more than her daughters' happiness, and knows how to teach them the lessons they need to achieve that happiness. Once a gentlewoman, Marmee knows that there is more to life than riches, and lives off the love of her family and not of money. Warm and loving.
Theodore Laurence (Laurie, Teddy): male; tenor; 18 – late 20’s
Shy and awkward. Befriended by Jo, Laurie is the grandson of the March's next door neighbor. He is impulsive, sensitive, and quickly to temper. He is also kind and caring towards all of the March sisters. He adores music, is a pet to Jo, and is a gentleman, though he does not look down on the March family for their poverty.
Mr. Laurence: male; character singing; 50 – 60
The rich next-door neighbor to the March family, Mr. Laurence becomes like a grandfather to the girls. He is kind, and gives them gifts such as Beth's piano. Beth becomes his special pet, and though the old man can be gruff and intimidating, the March clan and his headstrong grandson love him. Stern.
Aunt March: female; high alto; 50 - 60
A crotchety old rich woman, Aunt March is both a blessing and a plague to the March sisters. She leaves her things to the girls when she dies, and pays for Amy to go to Europe for a few years. She employs Jo to keep her company, and hides her sentimental generous nature behind a hard exterior.
John Brooke: male; baritone; 20 – early 30’s
Originally Laurie's tutor, Mr. Brooke falls in love and marries Meg. John is kind and poor, but works hard. He is exceptionally bright and patient and he has a passion for politics.

AUDITIONS FOR EQUUS
Auditions for Repertory Philippines’ production of Peter Shaffer’s “Equus” will be held at the Rep office, C2-A, Building C, 2316, Karrivin Plaza, Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati City.
The production is in search of actors for the following roles:
ALLAN STRANG
AGE - 18 to 27 (can pass for 17)
HEIGHT - between 5'5" to 5'9"
Proficient in the English language
Acting/theater experience a plus
A “lean boy of seventeen,” who is arrested after blinding six horses at Harry Dalton’s stable where he works. He appears very troubled; in his first session with psychiatrist Martin Dysart, Alan will only respond by singing advertising jingles. Alan has developed a complex ritual of devotion to the god Equus, which he practices through ecstatic midnight rides on Dalton’s horses. Alan’s pagan ritual transfers much of his mother’s Christian faith onto the image of the horse, which Alan associates with the forbidden since the disaster of his first riding experience. Frustrated and ashamed following his sexual failure with Jill, Alan blinds the horses to protect himself from the vengeance of Equus, who “saw” the boy in disgrace.
After resisting Dysart’s initial attempts to help him, Alan gradually grows more comfortable with the psychiatrist. Although Dysart regrets that curing the boy might give him a life as devoid of real passion as the doctor’s own, professional considerations prevail. Alan purges a great deal of pain in his later sessions with Dysart, and the play concludes with the implication that the doctor will continue to heal the boy’s mental anguish.
DORA STRANG
AGE – 40 to 50
Alan’s mother, a former school teacher (Alan declares proudly to Dysart, “She knows more than you”). She is religious, frequently talking to Alan about the Bible (much to the frustration of her atheist husband, Frank). Dora also feels she married beneath herself socially, a regret that shows itself in various ways. She comes from a “horsey family,” while Frank finds riding to be an affectation of “upper class riff-raff.” She did not want Alan to work in a shop because “shops are common.”
Dora visits Alan in the hospital, and when the boy throws his lunch at her, she slaps him. She regrets this act of violence but expresses to Dysart the level of her frustration under the present circumstances. She is incredulous that Dysart would view Alan’s violence as a product of his upbringing. “I only know he was my little Alan,” she mourns, “and then the Devil came.”
FRANK STRANG
AGE - 40 to 50
Alan’s father, a printer by trade. He is a self-declared atheist, which goes hand-in-hand with his political beliefs (Dysart calls him an “old-type Socialist. Relentlessly self-improving”). He frequently quotes Karl Marx’s adage, “Religion is the opium of the people” in response to his wife’s religious beliefs. As an atheist, he sees religion as “just bad sex,” holding his wife responsible for Alan’s psychological condition.
Frank comes alone to Dysart’s office to describe to the doctor how he once discovered Alan reciting a parody of a Biblical genealogy and then kneeling reverently in front of a photograph of a horse and beating himself with a coat hanger. Frank also reveals to Dysart that Alan was out with a girl the night he blinded the horses, neglecting to mention that he knows this because he encountered the couple in a pornographic cinema.
HESTHER SALOMON
AGE - 30 to 50
A magistrate. She brings Alan to Dysart after pleading with the court to allow the boy a psychiatric evaluation. She is a friend to Dysart and hears him out as he relates his personal problems — many of which he has been forced to face as a result of treating Alan. She tries to persuade Dysart that his psychiatric work has value and that curing Alan is an important task: “The boy’s in pain, Martin,” she observes. “That’s all I see. In the end.”
HARRY DALTON
AGE: 40 to 60
A stable owner. He is bitter about Alan’s blinding of his horses and feels the boy should be in prison, not “in a hospital at the tax-payers’ expense.” Before the blinding incident, however, Dalton was extremely friendly and supportive of Alan when the boy came to work at his stable; he told Alan, “the main rule is: enjoy yourself.”
JILL MASON
In her early twenties, “pretty and middle class.” Jill introduced Alan to Harry Dalton, helping the boy get a job in Dalton’s stables. Jill is attracted to Alan and encourages him to take her to a pornographic film, where they run into Alan’s father. Later, in the stable, Jill and Alan have a failed sexual encounter. In his shame, Alan sends Jill away and blinds the horses, a deed which catalyzes the play’s dramatic action. Dalton reports that Jill had a nervous breakdown after hearing of Alan’s act.
AGE: Must look like she is in her 20’s
HORSEMAN
AGE:
HEIGHT - between 5'10 and above
BUILD - lean, cut
Must be able to follow choreography
The Horseman, who Alan describes as “a college chap,” and Frank later calls “upper class riffraff,” provides six-year-old Alan his first experience riding a horse. Alan’s parents are frightened for Alan’s safety, and Frank pulls his son violently from the horse, causing Alan to fall. The Horseman is incredulous at the anger of Alan’s parents. He flippantly calls Frank a “stupid fart” and makes a point of starting his horse so that its hooves cover the family with sand and water as he rides away. The same actor who plays the Horseman also plays Nugget, one of Dalton’s horses that Alan takes for his midnight rides. This actor is among the chorus of six actors who depict horses.

2010 Top Twenty Independent Artists Revealed
by Donna Villanueva
We are a group of young filmmakers from different colleges and universities. We firmly believe that independent filmmaking is a great way for an actor or filmmaker to develop his or her style and abilities and it's not about the paycheck. Our group did a comprehensive research about our Top Twenty independent artists aged 18 to 40 years old (10 males & 10 females) that are ubiquitous figures in Philippine independent cinema.
Our top lists of Independent actors were a mixed batch composed of mainstream/character actors and theater thespians. We accord cinema and television the same respect and rigor as we do theater. These are not just entertainment but are art forms as well. Only when we begin to treat actors as artists can we demand from them to perform with artistry. We treat movie and television actors the same way we do our theater actors.
We would like to acknowledge the following Actors who have contributed to the independent film for the past years;
Ms. Gloria Romero,Ms. Anita Linda, Boots Anson Roa, Barbara Perez, Caridad Sanchez, Maricel Soriano,Cherrie Gil, ,Gina Alajar, Gina Pareño, Daria Ramirez, Cherrie Pie Picache, Jacklyn Jose, Rio Locsin, Tessie Thomas, Susan Africa, Elizabeth Oropesa, Chin Chin Guttirez, Mylene Dizon, Agot Isidro,Ma. Timothy Mark Pimentel Eigenmann in real life. Once in a while, a new face comes along in the entertainment scene that truly catches our attention. The moment we saw Sid Lucero, we knew that he's got it. And after seeing him act in his very first television drama role, there's no doubt that Sid will be the next best
young actor of his generation. Sid is being introduced in the much talked about soap opera "Hanggang Kailan," from GMA-7 and Filmex, Inc. where he is pitting talents against some of the country's acting heavyweights like Lorna Tolentino and Christopher de Leon. In the soap, he plays a lost young teenage boy who is searching for love and acceptance while in the process of finding himself. If his face looks familiar, it's because Sid is the son of thespian Mark Gil. The eyebrows, the nose and the piercing look is so very Mark, and from that initial episodes that we've seen, the boy has got the same natural intensity and passion like his dad. We learned that his manager Ricky Gallardo of The Talent Factory was
responsible in choosing his screen name. Sid Lucero is the name of the character Mark Gil played in the award-winning Mike de Leon film, "Batch 81," where Mark was elevated to lead status, and where he met and fell in love with Sid's mother, the former fashion model and
actress Bing Pimentel.
Sid, together with the other young cast of the soap, had to undergo intensive training in proper acting techniques with workshop director Peque Gallaga before facing the cameras. A quick learner, he says that from the time he started taping, he learned a lot in terms of motivation, delivery and focus, with the guidance of his directors Joey Reyes and Mark Reyes. He won Breakthrough Performance by an Actor for Donsol from 2007 Golden Screen Awards and Best actor from Cinema One Film Festival for Tambolista. Sid Lucero won Best Actor award in the 49-year history of the November 14-23, 2008 Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece, regarding film Selda. This year he got Best Supporting Actor nominations from URIAN for Tambolista and won Best actor from Manunuri for Selda. Sid is under Talent Factory management headed by Ricky Gallardo
